Watkins Community Center Wraps Up Successful 2025 Summer Theater Camp
Honea Path, SC — July 22, 2025 — The Watkins Community Center proudly concluded its 2025 Summer Theater Camp with two delightful performances of Peter Pan and the Neverland Retirement Community, written by Lindsay Johnson and co-directed by Lindsay Johnson and Amy Moore. The performances took place on the evenings of Thursday, July 17, and Friday, July 18, and drew enthusiastic crowds from the local community.

Throughout the week-long camp, students engaged in acting exercises, set and costume design, and team-building activities, all while preparing for their final production. The camp offered a fun and creative outlet for youth in the Honea Path area to express themselves and build confidence on stage.

“This camp is about more than just theater — it’s about growth, creativity, and community,” said director Lindsay Johnson. “We’re incredibly proud of the effort every camper put into making this show a success.”

The Summer Theater Camp is held annually during the second full week of July, and organizers are already looking ahead to next year’s session.

Summer Drama Camp
Each July, during the second full week, WCC sponsors a fun week-long summer theater camp for children ages 6-16. Each camp theme is a fairy tale chosen by the writers and directors. Campers dive into the world of theater, learning everything from creating sets and costumes, to writing parts of the play, projecting their voices and memorizing lines, all while having fun and making new friends. The week ends with two community play performances where friends, family and neighbors come together to enjoy the show. Don’t miss out! Registration starts in May. You can find all the details on the WCC website and local posters. It's a super exciting event that everyone looks forward to!
Festival of Trees
Each year the Watkins Community Center hosts a Festival of Trees in December. It takes place the first Saturday in December in the Watkins Community Center after the Christmas parade and is free to the public. There are lots of beautifully decorated trees to view, entertainment, vendors, and crafts for the kids. Santa is also in attendance. The Honea Path Museum is open during this event as well. Christmas Trees remain on display throughout the month of December.
